Let's Keep Peace

This video differs from our usual videos. But the current situation in Cameroon makes it necessary. The conflict between government troops and separatists endangers not only our cooperation project, but above all the lives of our colleagues and friends in Cameroon and their families.

Therefore, Draufsicht Bamenda produced this video together with the Young African Leaders Initiative Nigeria Cohort Three.

Godlove Dzebam:

”Considering the Sociopolitical tensions that have been plaguing the English-speaking Regions of Cameroon since 2016, many young people have become engaged with the militia group called ”Ambazonia Defence Forces”. The group had several fighting exchanges with the military of Cameroon and the results have been the loss of lives, thousands of refugees and internally displaced people, shot down of most schools, a rise of poverty and teenage pregnancies… We are sure that this short film will reach to someone to reflect on the cries of the population and peace can have its last chance’.’

We support this wish. – Let’s keep peace!

The whole text of the video

Plagued by the current sociopolitical crisis, young people drawn from various strata of society air out their views. For the fact that civilians who are unarmed, who don’t know how this crisis actually started, are paying the hard currency price. They are dying every blessed day. These young people think that peace can vindicate us from the shackles of those that are actually killing us every blessed day. We pray that peace which is the only solution to this problem returns. Lives have been lost, properties and jobs taken away from us. We think that peace can come and solve this problem.

Death and birth have become too close that death now takes the place of birth.

I smile with my boys, and the next thing I see is blood oozing out just because they are innocent suspects.

They killed our husbands, they took our children, and they defiled us.

Do not take advantage of this mishap to defile a woman.

Mother earth is crying. How long will I keep swallowing? They go out as boys but come back as corpses.

I still hear my baby cry. It hurts me that I can’t reach out because the distance between my baby and I is death.

The same authority vested on you to protect your country is the same authority vested on me to protect my body, to protect my genitals.

The Gunner goes free, my people pay for the shots.

Civilians like grass suffer the effects of your elephant shows, so stay out.

Wearing an amour, holding a pistol is strength not cowardice.

Put the guns down, build your guts and talk.

Stop the war, Together let’s keep peace.
